On May 14, 2025, Dirk Reich, Chairman of the Board at Log-hub AG, held a presentation on the role of artificial intelligence in logistics at the Propeller Club’s 46th General Assembly in Basel. The event took place at the Museum Kleines Klingental and brought together members of the logistics and shipping community for an evening of professional exchange.
Dirk Reich, a seasoned logistics expert and technology leader, delivered a presentation titled “Kurs auf die Zukunft: KI-Agenten verändern die Spedition” (“Setting Course for the Future: AI Agents Are Transforming Freight Forwarding”). He explored the evolving role of AI in the logistics sector, offering both a retrospective view and forward-looking insights into the use of autonomous decision-making systems.
A key point in his presentation was the distinction between traditional AI assistants and modern AI agents—autonomous systems capable of learning and making decisions based on real-time data. To illustrate this, Reich introduced a fictional AI agent named “Sandro,” powered by advanced models such as GPT-4o, showcasing how such agents could manage logistics operations independently.
Reich also presented the concept of a potential Basel Multi-Agent System, a collaborative initiative aimed at developing AI applications for Basel-based logistics providers. This system could serve as a platform to support innovation and operational efficiency across the region’s logistics landscape.

“AI isn’t just a technological upgrade—it’s a strategic imperative for the logistics industry,” said Reich. “The ability to build and apply autonomous systems will define the competitiveness of logistics players in the coming years.”
Drawing on Log-hub’s expertise, the presentation covered several real-world AI use cases including automated tour planning, customs processing, ETA prediction, and AI-supported customer engagement. Founded in 2017, Log-hub specializes in AI-powered supply chain solutions and offers a suite of “Supply Chain Apps” used worldwide for network design, transport optimization, inventory planning, and more. Log-hub has identified more than 30 use cases of AI for logistics service providers and is happy to share those, including its view of the potential financial value and estimated implementation time.
The presentation initiated valuable discussions among Propeller Club members and highlighted the growing importance of AI in logistics. The Board of the Propeller Club expressed its appreciation for the insights shared and for the ongoing collaboration within the logistics community.
